Ham with Pineapple Glaze

Spiral hams are the perfect holiday meal.  This pineapple glazed ham is bursting with flavor from cloves, pineapple, maraschino cherries, and the final touch a pineapple glaze.  You will be making this ham often once you try it.

Recipe adapted from Food Network

Ingredients:

1 can pineapple rings, reserve 1 cup pineapple juice

8-12 maraschino cherries

1 spiral ham

1 tablespoon ground cloves

1 cup honey

1 cup light brown sugar

Directions:

  1. Let the ham sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  3. Use a sharp knife to score through the fat in a diagonal crosshatch pattern without cutting through to the meat.
  4. Sprinkle ground cloves over the ham.
  5. Put the ham flat side down on a rack in a roasting pan.
  6. Arrange the sliced pineapple all over the ham securing with a toothpick and maraschino cherry in the center.
  7. Pour ¼ cup water in the bottom of the pan. Tent the ham with foil.
  8. Roast until ham reaches an internal temperature of 130 degrees about 2 hours (15 minutes per pound)
  9. Meanwhile combine the honey, brown sugar, and reserved pineapple juice in a saucepan over medium heat.  Simmer for 25-30 minutes.
  10. Increase oven temperature to 425 degrees.
  11. Uncover the pan.  Remove the pineapple and cherries.
  12. Brush a third of the glaze over the ham. If water in the base evaporated add another ¼ cup water. Bake 15 minutes more.
  13. Add another coat of glaze. Bake 15 minutes.
  14. Brush remaining glaze over ham.  Let ham rest for 15 minutes.
  15. Slice and serve with pineapple slices and cherries.
