Philly Cheesesteak Pizza Roll
My kids devour Philly Cheesesteaks so when I saw this recipe I thought it was the perfect dinner with a few adaptations. My kids do not like mushrooms, but you can add sauteed mushrooms if you prefer.
Recipe adapted from Food Network
Ingredients:
1 store bought container thin pizza dough
1 pound beef flank steak
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil divided
Salt and pepper
1 bell pepper sliced
1 sweet onion sliced
2 garlic cloves minced
8 ounces shredded provolone cheese
1 egg beaten
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Lightly flour a baking sheet.
- Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil on medium heat. Cook the steak for 6-8 minutes flipping over halfway through. Season with salt and pepper.
- Transfer steak to a plate lined with paper towels. Freeze the steak for 10-20 minutes to make it easier to slice thin.
- Sauté the peppers, onion, and garlic over medium heat with 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium heat for 5 minutes mixing often.
- Slice the steak as thinly as possible. I used kitchen shears to cut it into strips.
- Roll out the pizza dough on the baking sheet.
- Place a layer of steak on the pizza dough leaving a 1 inch border on all sides.
- Spread vegetables over the steak.
- Sprinkle cheese over the steak and vegetables.
- Starting from the short side, tightly roll the dough like a jelly roll.
- Use your fingers to pinch closed the seams.
- Beat 1 egg in a small bowl. Use a pastry brush to egg wash the dough.
- Sprinkle garlic powder on the roll.
- Bake 20-25 minutes.
- Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
- Cut into slices.
- Enjoy!
