These are my favorite sloppy joes! They are loaded with flavor and I managed to sneak in vegetables. These remind me of Philly Cheesesteaks without the calories and fat.
Ingredients:
1 pound lean ground turkey
½ cup onion diced
1 green pepper diced
½ cup carrot diced
1 cup beef broth
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Salt and pepper to taste
Sliced provolone
Hamburger buns or wraps
Optional: spinach, lettuce, sliced tomato
Directions:
- Spray a nonstick pan with olive oil spray. Cook the turkey breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any liquid.
- Spray another pan with olive oil spray. Sauté the onion, carrots, and pepper over medium heat for 5 minutes to soften.
- Add the vegetables to the ground turkey.
- Add the beef broth, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper.
- Mix the cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of water in a small bowl. Add to the pan stirring constantly.
- Optional: Add slices of provolone cheese to the mixture while in the pan by forming mounds and covering mounds with cheese. OR divide mixture among buns/wraps and then top with the cheese.
- Enjoy!
